DeElfstedenblogtpart 4:PotholesIn My Blog
Gastblog
Today’s post will be in English. For those who are not familiar with the Elfstedenblogt, this is a series of posts where I visit 11 different cities and meet 11 interesting (music) bloggers. No artists in the spotlights right now, just blogs and the people behind them. So, why in English? Well, because in this part of the Elfstedenblogt I’m over in New York City, interviewing David Reyneke about his blog called Potholes In My Blog. Thank you, internet!
I have been visiting Potholes In My Blog for quite some time now, discovering new, high quality music with each visit. David, one of the main forces behind this well read music blog, was kind enough to answer some of the questions I posed about him and his blog.
1. First off, tell me a bit about yourself.
“My name is David Reyneke, also known to many as Reyn. I am from New Jersey, in close proximity to New York City. I am currently a student at Fairfield University. Since starting PotholesInMyBlog just over a year ago, I have taken on several other endeavors. I am a concert photographer for my own site as well as PopMatters.com. I also have taken on a spot at Rhapsody’s blog, which I am very excited to get rolling this year. Finally, with the help of a few others from the Potholes crew, I have started a PR/Management company of sorts. We are now working with Objektiv One, Mr. J. Medeiros, Panacea, Beats Broke, and a few more. Stay tuned for that!”
2. Wat do you blog about?
“Good music! Reviews, columns, free downloads and more. In the end it is always about bringing people the best music possible. And it’s not just hip-hop. If it’s fresh, it’s fresh!”
3. Why did you start this blog?
“I was sick of letting other people tell me what to listen to. There are tons of blogs, but none of them really fit my musical taste. And none of them seemed to be offering a real opportunity to up-and-coming artists that deserved some real shine. Now that the site is fairly established, I would credit most of my motivation to the homies who run the blog with me. Andrew, Gedi, Zach and the rest of the gang…”
4. What has your attention at this moment, concerning your blog?
“Right now we are looking to expand the site. New layout, logo and more. It is going to be a very exciting time for us in 2010!”
5. Which artist would you like to draw attention to?
“Objektiv One. This guy is a beast, straight up. There are so many artists I can think of right now, but he deserves it more than anyone. He is an amazing producer, graphic designer, marketer and just an overall great guy. Oh yeah, and he can rap. Keep that on the down low though for now!”
“Capuletgo is the bomb!”
6. Which music related blogs do you follow?
“Pitchfork.com – I am a sucker for this site. I will admit, I check this site about 4 times a day.
Yourstru.ly – Just an awesome site with great content.
FreshSelects.net – Kenny is the homie and you already know anything posted here is going to be fantastic.
Okayplayer.com – The Lesson is where the Potholes crew met, so I have to show my support for this great site.”
7. Anything else you would like to share?
“Big shouts to Trouble-Online for the opportunity! 2010 is going to be a big year for Potholes and the artists we work with. Be on the lookout for Objektiv One’s solo LP, Mr. J.’s several new projects, Panacea’s new album (their best album to date, hands down), and the tons of upcoming Beats Broke projects (including a free EP from Arts the Beatdoctor).”
Which brings us back to The Netherlands. Thanks David!
To my readers: move over to Potholes In My Blog and check it out! Signing off for now. Just don’t forget to come back.
In a few days I’ll continue the Elfstedenblogt tour. Off to the city of Tilburg.
